Vern Climbs into The Ring

Vern Climbs into The Ring

When you see the advertisements for the Wii, they zero in on the fact that the Wii is for all ages. I witnessed something last night that tells me they are correct. This Wii thing is for everyone.

Pop Pop's 85 year old mother is living with Mom Mom, and Pop Pop now. She takes physical theraphy a few times a week, but she still can't walk. Well, let me tell you what I saw last night. I not only saw it with my own eyes, I was a participate.

Mom Mom, and Pop Pop stepped out for about an hour last night while Granny, and I was watching TV. They hadn't been gone long when Granny asked me to turn the Wii on. What? I couldn't believe what I just heard. Granny said, "Fluff, turn that Wii thing on, and let's have some fun." I don't communicate with many people, but Granny, and I have been talking back, and forth for years now. That's another story in itself.

I got excited now, Granny, and I playing Wii. How cool is that? So I jumped up, and turned it on. I asked her if she wanted to bowl, play tennis, golf, or play baseball. My excitement quickly faded when I heard her say, "None of those games, put that boxing thing on." My jaw hit the floor. She can't be serious, I didn't hear her right, but with the devilish look she had on her face, I knew I heard her right. She looked at me, and said, "You got yourself knocked out, but Granny is going to show you how it's done. I'll knock out the dude while I sit right here in my chair. You just put that boxing in there, and watch Granny get down with her bad self."

Man, Granny was coming to life in a big way. She was already bobbing her head back, and forth, "Give me those controller's, and stand back girlfriend. Granny's going to lay this dude out!"  She had been working her puzzle book up until that point. She simply laid it in her lap, and took hold of the controller's. Into the ring she went, jumping, bobbing, and weaving. She couldn't walk out here, but in the ring she was up, and moving. You can't believe the thoughts that were going through my head. I had the good Fluff, and the bad Fluff screaming at me from both sides again. I had to shake my head to make sure I wasn't dreaming.

Now, you all need to understand that Granny has never played an electronic game before in her life. She never asked me how to use the controller's, which I thought strange. She has never used a calculator, she does it all with paper, and pencil. She only plays the radio, and TV. I had a feeling this was going to be a disaster.

The bell rang, and out she came. All of a sudden she realized she didn't know how to operate the controller's. It was too late. Her opponent was smashing her like an old tin can. Her lights were punched out before she knew what hit her. She was out before she hit the floor. I looked over at her sitting in the chair, and much to my horror, she was out cold, I mean gone. Now what? A knocked out Granny with the Wii controller's in her hand, and her puzzlebook on her lap.

I grabbed the controller's, turned the Wii off, and put the TV back on. I made sure everything was back to where it was before we started. That's when I heard the car pulling into the driveway. I laid down by Granny's chair, and pretended that I was asleep, just like Granny.

When Mom Mom, and Pop Pop came in, they walked past us, and went to the kitchen. I kept looking at Granny, and pretty soon she started to come around. Oh boy, if she spills the beans I'm toast. Once she got herself together she looked around, and then down at me. She whispered, "Fluff, what happened?" I whispered back that I would tell her after Mom Mom, and Pop Pop went to bed. She said ok.

After everyone was in bed I told Granny what had happened. We both had a good, long laugh at Granny's boxing debut. I mean to tell you, she really got herself punched out last night, but she said it was fun. I'm not so sure, but as I relive it in my head, it sure was funny!
